A PLASTIC OCEAN begins when journalist Craig Leeson, searching for the elusive blue whale, discovers plastic waste in what should be pristine ocean. In this adventure documentary, Craig teams up with free diver Tanya Streeter and an international team of scientists and researchers, and they travel to twenty locations around the world over the next four years to explore the fragile state of our oceans, uncover alarming truths about plastic pollution, and reveal working solutions that can be put into immediate effect.

Doug Allan: Doug spent seven years in Antarctica as a research diver, scientist and photographer for the British Antarctic Survey. With over 40 years first-hand experience of the poles, he has witnessed first hand the effects of the change in snow and ice cover on the ecology of the far north and south. What he’s seen reinforces his determination and commitment to raising awareness of this and other global issues through speaking engagements and films including Blue Planet most recently.
Sandy Halliday: Sandy is a chartered engineer & Principal of Gaia Research, which she founded (1995) to develop sustainable solutions for the built environment. She initially worked in the design of socially useful products and moved into the building sector. She is a specialist advisor for clients, architectural & engineering practices, offering real-time guidance on strategies for achieving affordable sustainable buildings & places at all stages from briefing & specification to tendering, handover, operation & post-occupancy evaluation.
James Daw: James Daw is an Architectural Technologist. In October 2017 James and his 10-year-old daughter, Amelia, attended a screening of A Plastic Ocean organised by the Scottish Ecological Design Association (SEDA). They were so shocked by the impact of plastic pollution shown in the film that they decided they had to do something. They are committed to reducing the amount of plastic they throw away to zero. James regularly writes a blog to chart his experiences and posts tips and thoughts on working towards zero-plastic living on www.plasticfree145.wordpress.com
James Hobson: James has 17 years of global waste management experience and leads the waste consultancy service at BuroHappold Engineering. Working alongside urban planners, he specialises in developing innovative waste and material supply strategies for buildings, districts and cities. Development of these strategies are built around start-of-pipe solutions, finding opportunities to design out waste and support waste reduction in communities, and adopt circular supply and consumption systems.
