Darach,
(which means oak tree in Gallic) provides 8 bedroomed living accommodation
for the Loch Arthur Community in Dumfriesshire, and was winner of the Saltire
Design Award in 2000. The front of the building looks out over sloping ground, whilst the rear forms an open courtyard, and fits snugly into the land
The
Loch Arthur Community has about 70 members, of which almost half have special
needs. They farm biodynamically and are well known for the quality
of their cheeses, and their local shop and cafe.
